Clasped weft weaving is a technique sometimes utilized in tapestry weaving to create a variety of shapes.  We will explore the design elements of clasped weft weaving, using contrasting weft yarns on a rigid heddle loom.

Rigid heddle looms are simple looms that allow you to easily weave yardage of plain weave cloth.  Students will learn how to set up a loom using the direct warping method. We will explore design using a sketch book and/or paper cut outs and discuss methods of transferring your ideas onto your loom. Students will take their looms home to work on them for the week.  We will gather once more at the end of the week to finish our pieces - stitching and stuffing our pillows.

No rigid heddle weaving experience is necessary.  You may choose to rent a loom or bring your own.  If you bring your own, please bring a 7.5 or 8 dent heddle and all the necessary accessories.

If you would like to bring your materials, please see below.  Yarns are available for purchase as well.

Please Bring:

  • 300-400 yards total of sport to DK weight yarn.  At least 150 yards should be one color for the warp plus a variety of contrasting colors for the weft
  • tapestry needle to second class
  • scissors
  • sketch book & pencil or colored pencils
  • lunch - we will take a small break to recharge!
